Long Beach Woman Attacked by Two Pit Bulls—Two Bystanders Attacked Helping the Woman

May 14, 2012 - According to reports a Long Beach woman was brutally attacked Saturday by two pit bulls, while walking her dog. According to the Long Beach Police Department the dog bit attack occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Barclay Street in Long Beach. Long Beach police said that the woman was transported to the hospital after the attack and rushed into surgery. Officers arriving on the scene said two bystanders were also injured in the vicious dog bite attack, when they attempted to fight the dogs off from attacking the woman. Police said the woman suffered serious injuries, but were not life threatening and one of the Good Samaritans was transported to the hospital for dog bites. The other Good Samaritan said they would seek private treatment for their bites. One of the pit bulls was found by officers after the attack and after several attempts to stun the dog with a Taser, officers shot the dog. The pit bull died from its wounds. The second pit bull was able to be taken into custody by animal control, Long Beach police said.
