Child Attacked by Pit Bull Hospitalized—Dog Shot by Homeowner

October 25, 2011-According to reports a 5 year old girl attacked by a pit bull was hospitalized after being attacked in Yuba County.

According to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday the Pitbull attack took place in the backyard of a home located in Marysville on Pyramid Creek Drive. Four children were playing in a backyard of a home when a pit bull from another home broke through the fence where the children were playing.

One of the children when to tell the adults in the house that the pit bull was in the backyard and during this time the dog attacked a five year old girl, who was visiting the home. During the time that the mother of the five year old dog attack victim went to get the child out of the yard the mother of the three children that lived at the house got a gun and went into the backyard and shot the pit bull. The five year old girl was transported to the Rideout Memorial Hospital, where she is expected to fully recover.

The pit bull was taken to a veterinarian clinic, where it was treated for the gun wound and is expected to recover, according to the owner. The owner stated that the bullet did not hit the pit bulls brain. The dog will be quarantined for ten days, which is the standard amount of time dogs are held after a dog bite attack.
