Parent of Small Infant Criminally Charged with Child Endangerment in Dog Attack : : Animal Bite Hotline 888-400-9721


November 9, 2007 - Although most of us have heard of dog attacks man fact situation, in a new twist, Robert A. Schultz, the dad of an infant who had been mutilated by a little dachshund was arrested Thursday and charged he was criminally with child endangerment as well as domestic battery.

Schultz, who was 25 years at the time of arrest, is a resident att the 800 block of Eaton Lane, Lake Villa. He was arraigned in Lake County bond court. Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak released Schultz on his own recognizance.

The charges consist of two counts of child endangerment and one count for domestic battery. The conviction of the charges could result in a sentence of up to one year in jail or probation.

The facts relate the Mr. Schultz took his 4-month-old son to his girlfriend's residence located at the 1300 block of White Oak Drive, Waukegan. His girlfriend was the owner of the dangerous dachshund. The boy was wrapped in some blankets and left on a couch alone in a room with the dog. Apparently Schultz and the woman were getting it on in a room several hours in the bedroom.

When they woke up, the heard the baby crying and screaming. Police stated the dog probably smelled baby pee which made it start to chew on the diaper. The baby began to bleed and was flown via helicopter to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The infant underwent surgery at Children's Memorial Hospital located at Chicago. At last check, he had been listed in stable condition. The dog was held for 10 days of observation at the local city animal shelter.
